Sunlight is changed directly to electricity using solar cells. Every day, sunlight, containing photons, shines onto the solar panels. The solar panel converts those photons into electrons of direct current ("DC") electricity. The electrons flow out of the solar panel into an inverter protected by other electrical safety devices.

The inverter converts that DC power into alternating current ("AC") power. AC power can be used to power your household appliances like refrigerator, washing machine, and air-conditioner.
In Singapore, the most common solar systems are grid-tied. A grid connected system is linked to the electrical grid and doesn’t require the use of batteries.

The energy generated by the solar system will first be consumed by the house. Any surplus solar energy during the day will then be transmitted back into the grid. The excess energy will be used to offset your energy consumption when there is no sunlight.

A net energy meter, which records the import and export electrical energy, will be installed by the utilities company.
The net energy meter keeps track of the all the energy your solar system generates.

Any solar energy that you do not use simultaneous with production will go back into the electrical grid through the meter. At night or on rainy days, when your system is producing less than your building needs, you will consume electricity from the grid as normal.

Your utility will bill you for the "net" consumption for any given billing period.
  • Cheapest and popular option
  • Simple operation method
  • Low-maintenance and reliable (can easily last 20 to 25 years)
  • Customisable to meet any power requirement
  • Runs simultaneously with mains grid electricity - any additional power required is drawn from the grid, any excess power produced is fed back into the grid
  • Grid connect systems will not work during a power blackout. This is due to safety reasons. Grid-Tied solar inverters are equipped with cut-off sensors to prevent electricity from being fed back into the grid during maintenance
  • Since there are no batteries, system is unable to provide backup power during blackout.
In Singapore, most of the rooftops we encountered are suitable for solar panels installation.

Over the years, we have amassed valuable experience installing for different types of roofing systems like: metal roofing, Reinforced concrete flat roof, clay tiles, concrete tiles, Asphalt shingles, trellis, canopy, etc.

At Starrio, we have the engineering capabilities to provide customised solutions.

We would only need to install a new set of cables from your rooftop to the solar inverter. Minor electrical alteration works will be carried out to link the solar system into your existing switch board.
Solar Leasing is an innovative way of enjoying the benefit of clean and cheaper solar energy without worrying about the finance and operation of a Solar PV system. The Solar Leasing company will supply, install and maintain the Solar power system on your rooftop, at zero cost. Your company will start enjoying discounted rates to your current electrical tariff. You can expect an immediate savings of 15 to 20% for energy generated by the Solar PV system.
